Durham Skatepark: Durham, NC
The Pillar Design Studios/Artisan Skateparks team was selected to design and build the Durham Skatepark. Since our goal has always been to create parks that you can skate, the City of Durham felt our design style and creativeness would be a perfect fit for their urban setting. This park was designed to blend with its current surroundings as well as connect to the Downtown trail system. We were able to capture the Durham skate culture by incorporating different materials, colors and textures, giving the Durham skatepark its own identity.
The Stormwater system for the Durham Skate Park was designed to handle both the water quality and quantity aspects of the regulatory code. Seamless integration of the Stormwater system with the site, landscape, and skatepark design was completed. Piped level spreaders, water‐loving plants, bio‐basin soils, and many other details are integrated into the design of the system.
