Warren County Skatepark: Front Royal, VA
The County of Warren selected the Pillar Design Studios/Build team to design their 17,000 sq.ft. Skatepark project. This project was unique and a perfect fit for our team due to the vast support from the local community, users and business owners offering in‐kind services and or donations. Our team worked closely with the County, designing to a fixed budget. During the design phase, we delineate each element and the associated price. By doing so the County was able to request and receive numerous in‐kind donations for the construction of the project. The total budget for the Skatepark project was $544,470 but with the help of community members, users and business owners the County’s final cost for the Skatepark project was $463,000.
Brad Siedlecki worked with the local users and the community to create this versatile design that not only allows for all styles of users but also reflects the local culture and heritage. The County requested recreational space that provided a safe and legal place for the area youths but also had financial benefits such as, conducting workshops and competitions. This destination Skatepark will not only boost the local economy due to increase in hotels, restaurants, gas stations, etc but we were able to incorporate a piece of skate‐able art work that mimics a Civil War Cannon Barrel which you find throughout town.
The final Skatepark was constructed by using local talents. Our Design/Build team worked with a local General Contractor, they handled all NON Skatepark aspects such as drainage, grading, flatwork, etc. This not only enables us to put funds back into the Skate-able square footage of the park but to put funds back into the local economy.
